Truly, we are so alike when it comes to packing โ we both are minimalists. Although it took Mr. Bean 3 minutes to pack his suitcase, Iโm a little slower and it takes me 20 minutes to pack.
For all my travels, even with 3 kids, I take only one 55 liters' vaude backpack that can be taken on a plane as a cabin baggage.
My rucksack saves me a lot of money as low cost airlines require a separate payment for hold luggage. My cabin bag usually goes free or for a small fee.
Each airline has its own policy regarding luggage- check these details when ordering tickets.
It also saves me time because I donโt need to wait to send the the luggage before the take off or collect it after the landing.
When I get out of the airport I can easily travel by public transport with no need to pay for a taxi.
Oh, and it is so convenient to pack light when leaving home or a hotel, so waste of time or energy involved! ๐
This is what I pack:
โฆ 3 short sleeved t-shirts
โฆ 2 long sleeved shirts (if needed)
โฆ 2 pants (1 long, 1 short)
โฆ 3 pairs of underwear
โฆ 3 pairs socks
โฆ swimsuit
โฆ thin rain jacket (if itโs a winter jacket I tie it to the backpack).
โฆ toiletry bag (toothpaste, perfume, shampoo, conditioner, soap, moisturizer and sunblock in small 100 ml containers, toothbrush, deodorant and hair brush).
โฆ first aid kit including fenistil gel, iodine ointment, paracetamol and bug repellent spray.
โฆ wet wipes and toilet paper
โฆ 10 plastic bags + 10 sandwich bags
โฆ cellphone, camera and laptop including charges
โฆ inflatable car booster attached to outside of backpack
Donโt forget this doesnโt include the clothes Iโm wearing, effectively adding 33% to the total amount of my luggage. ๐
Each kid gets the same clothing list together with a book, game and ipad.
My baby girl Maya receives a special treat that includes:
โฆ Travel System pram + car seat
โฆ Pram bag
โฆ Rain cover (kept under the pram)
โฆ Two bottles and pacifiers
โฆ Baby blanket
โฆ A few diapers and a small amount of baby food (I top up along the way, rather than bringing a large amount from home)
โฆ Baby Bjorn carrier (during the flight it's on me, the rest of the trip folded under the pram)
I wash clothes along the way, making it possible to travel foreverโฆ ๐
